2000

December
Alan performed on Christmas Eve at the Newport Presbyterian Church in Bellevue Washington, along with the Newport Handbell Choir and Newport Ensemble, featuring Kelly Aramaki (piano), Jon Ramer (guitar) and Steve Boyce (bass guitar). Alan played the set of sacred songs using wire brushes.

Alan was interviewed by BBC London on Saturday, December 9TH at Donn Bennett Drum Studio for an upcoming documentary about John Lennon. The focus of the interview had to do with Lennon artifacts, including the recent purchase of Lennon's baby grand piano for $2.5 million.

After the interview, Alan brought out the original Ludwig Silver Sparkle drum kit that he played on the IMAGINE album and played along with a tape of 'Imagine'. More details can be found at The Eastside Journal.

November

Alan and Donn Bennet judging at the Drum Off regionals at EMP Alan was a judge for DRUM OFF, a national drum competition sponsered, in part by Guitar Center. The contest was held locally at Guitar Center's Kirkland, Washington store on Tuesday evening, November 7TH. The winner, Alex Westcoat, who at 15 years old was the youngest contestant, now goes on to the finals which will be held at EMP on Monday, November 20TH. Alan will also be a judge at that event, along with Reek Havok and Steve Boyce.

Alan played Thursday night (November 10TH) with Reek Havok, Steve Boyce, Jon and Tova Ramer and some other friends at Seattle Glassblowing Studio. The artists blow glass to live music and create some pretty interesting pieces of art. They gave Alan an opportunity to blow a glass creation which turned out "really cool". Alan thought the whole experience was amazing.

Living In The Sun, from Merkaba's latest CD, has moved up from #24 to #18 on the New Music Weekly Adult Contemporary chart. While Alan did not perform on this track, he did perform on Olore Malle on the CD and has performed on stage several times with Merkaba (see below).

Alan with a recent catch!Speaking of salmon, Alan is an avid fisherman and has recently been enjoying sunrises over Puget Sound along with a little fishing and wanted to share his favorite salmon recipe with everyone:

Place salmon in baking pan lined with aluminum foil. Peel fresh ginger, slice in thin slices and cover the salmon fillet or place inside whole salmon to bake. Douse with soy sauce and let marinate in fridge for at least a 1/2 hour to an hour. Cover with foil and bake in 325 degree oven until flaky. Time depends on size of fish.

This recipe was given to me by a friend's father from Alaska, it's truly delicious so ENJOY.

Bon Appetit

Alan

Merkaba, with Alan and Reek Havok
Alan on stage with Merkaba, Reek Havok & Karl Haug

Alan performed with two very different bands at the Issaquah Music Festival on August 12TH & 13TH. Saturday night, Spencer Davis took the stage, backed by the "Seattle version of the Spencer Davis Group", which included Reek Havok and Roger Fisher. The band rehearsed for only an hour, but still rocked the house down, finishing up with Spencer's 1967 hit Gimme Some Lovin'.

Sunday afternoon, Merkaba took the stage for an hour and played music from their new CD. Guest guitarist Karl Haug from Treason joined the band for a couple of songs, including Owner of a Lonely Heart and Roundabout, from the YES catelog. Below are some pictures from the two gigs.
